China and Gambia Upgrade Relations to Strategic Partnership

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Gambian President Barrow at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on September 6. The meeting took place during President Barrow’s visit to China to attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

President Xi Jinping welcomed President Barrow, noting that this was his second visit to Beijing to attend the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit. He highlighted the growing political mutual trust and steady advancement of practical cooperation between the two countries. Xi Jinping emphasized that China and the Gambia have become close friends and partners on the path to development and revitalization.

President Barrow expressed his gratitude to President Xi Jinping for the invitation to attend the Beijing Summit. He praised the profound friendship between the Gambia and China, which continues to deepen. President Barrow believed that the summit would further consolidate bilateral relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the two heads of state announced the upgrade of China-Gambia relations to a strategic partnership. This development is expected to strengthen cooperation and benefit the people of both countries.
