Fortnite is offering refunds to players who purchased cosmetic items associated with the musician D4vd, following his arrest on April 20, 2026, on charges related to the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, announced the availability of both immediate self-service refunds and refunds processed through player support.
The decision to offer refunds comes after growing criticism from the Fortnite community regarding the presence of D4vd’s content within the game, given the severity of the charges against him. Epic Games acknowledged these concerns via the Fortnite Status account on X, stating, “We hear the concerns. We have a bunch of changes we’re rolling out over time. The first one will be available on Tuesday April 28th, when anyone who purchased one of these items will be able to get an immediate self-service refund. And, right now, players who request refunds for D4vd cosmetics via player support can be refunded.”
Players who purchased items such as the “Feel It” emote, the track “What Are You Waiting For,” and “Locked and Loaded” are eligible for a refund. The self-service refund option became available on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, allowing players to receive refunds without submitting a support ticket. Refunds were also available prior to April 28 through Epic Games player support.
D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, rose to prominence in 2021 by posting Fortnite gameplay montages set to his original music. He released two charting singles in 2022 and a pair of EPs in 2023. His debut studio album, *Withered*, was released in 2025. He also performed at The Game Awards in 2024, alongside 21 Pilots and Royal & the Serpent, performing music from the League of Legends animated series *Arcane*.
Burke was charged with first-degree murder more than six months after the remains of Celeste Rivas Hernandez were discovered in a Tesla registered to his address. Prosecutors also filed charges of lewd and lascivious acts with a person under 14 and mutilating a body.
While Epic Games is offering refunds for D4vd cosmetics, the company has not indicated plans to remove the items or the singer’s music entirely from Fortnite. This decision has drawn further criticism from some players who believe a more comprehensive response is warranted.
The case is ongoing, and Burke appeared in court on April 20, 2026.
