Jeddah: Four people were killed when a bus and a truck collided on the Makkah-Madinah Express (Hijra Road) road. 48 people were injured. The incident took place at around 11.30 pm on Thursday, when a bus and a truck collided on the road from Makkah to Madinah, 70 km away.

52 people were injured. Seven of them sustained serious injuries. 23 were moderately injured. 18 people were slightly injured. Four died instantly. The injured were rushed to various hospitals in the area. It is not known what nationality the dead and wounded were from.

Madinah Red Crescent spokesman Khalid Musaid al-Sahli said more than 20 ambulance units had arrived in Madinah immediately after receiving the information. In addition, eight ambulance units arrived from the Mecca area and three units from the Qasim area.

Two primary care teams from Madinah King Faisal Hospital and the Health Office arrived on the scene. A Red Crescent spokesman said the Civil Defense had led the rescue effort. The front and right side of the bus were almost completely destroyed in the accident.
