Frankfurt Carnival 2026: Public Transport Adjustments for Parades

Frankfurt residents and visitors planning to attend the Karneval parades on Saturday, February 14th and Sunday, February 15th, as well as the parade on Shrove Tuesday, February 17th, are advised to utilize public transportation where possible. The regional transport authority (RMV) is preparing for increased passenger volume and implementing service adjustments to accommodate the festivities.

Sunday, February 15th: Increased Capacity and Route Changes

On Sunday, the U3 line will operate with increased frequency, running every 15 minutes from approximately 11:00 to 18:00. Longer trains will also be deployed on the U1, U2, U4, U6 and U8 lines to provide additional capacity. However, street closures in the city center will necessitate diversions and interruptions to several lines between approximately 6:00 and 19:00.

  • Line 11: This line will be split into two sections. Services from Fechenheim will terminate at Lokalbahnhof via Allerheiligentor, while services from Höchst will only run to Hauptbahnhof (Heilbronner Straße).
  • Line 12: Like Line 11, Line 12 will also operate in two sections. In the west, it will run between Schwanheim and Willy-Brandt-Platz, with a frequency of every 7.5 minutes between 11:00 and 18:00. In the east, services will operate from Hugo-Junkers-Straße to Konstablerwache between 6:00 and 9:00, then continue via Zoo to Ernst-May-Platz, replacing Tram 14. The eastern section of Line 12 will be completely suspended between 9:00 and 19:00.
  • Line 14: Service will be limited to the section between Gustavsburgplatz and Hauptbahnhof from approximately 6:00 to 19:00. From 6:00 to 9:00, services between Börneplatz/Stoltzestraße and Ernst-May-Platz will be provided by diverted Line 12. Between 9:00 and 19:00, diverted services from Line 18 will operate on the section between Saalburg-/Wittelsbacherallee and Allerheiligentor.
  • Line 18: This line will be diverted between approximately 9:00 and 19:00, running between Nibelungenplatz and Hospital zum Heiligen Geist via Bornheim Mitte and Zoo.

The Ebbelwei-Express will not be in operation on Sunday.

To accommodate increased demand, additional services will be added to bus line 30 between Bad Vilbel and Konstablerwache between 9:30 and 20:00, resulting in a 15-minute frequency. Between Unfallklinik and Konstablerwache, buses will run even more frequently, every 7.5 minutes, with articulated buses providing increased capacity.

Metrobus line M36 will be split, operating only between Hainer Weg and Südbahnhof, and between Konstablerwache and Westbahnhof, from 6:00 to 19:00. Line 64 will operate only between Ginnheim Mitte and Hauptbahnhof/Fernbusterminal from the start of service until approximately 16:00.

Tuesday, February 17th: U-Bahn to Klaa Paris and Increased Bus Service

For those attending the parade through Klaa Paris on Shrove Tuesday, the U-Bahn is recommended. The stations Heddernheim and Zeilweg provide convenient access to the parade route.

Metrobus line M60 will be shortened, running between Rödelheim and Nordwestzentrum from approximately 10:00 to 22:00. To serve parade attendees, the line will increase its frequency to every five minutes during the start and end of the parade – from 13:00 to 14:00 and from approximately 15:30 to 18:15. Bus line 71 will also increase its frequency to every 15 minutes from approximately 13:00, with a short walk from Nordwestzentrum station to the parade route via Titusstraße.

Passengers are encouraged to check the RMV website for the most up-to-date information and potential changes to service schedules. Expect traffic obstructions and consider using public transport to avoid affected areas.
