Gary Neville, former Manchester United right back, remembers the time he was commissioned by Sir Alex Ferguson to approach Steven Gerrard, the legendary Liverpool captain, to join the team.
The “Red Devils” defender said that he had been used by Fergie in 2004 to try to invite Stevie G to join the army, and that he had followed his boss’s orders. But he was rejected almost immediately.
“I went into Stevie’s room when we were in the England camp. and asked him to sign with Manchester United. At that time Sir Alex called me and told me his intention.Neville said.
“I went to talk to Stevie and he quickly denied it. He said he would never leave Liverpool or his family either.“
