They found that four out of 10 wage earners in their 20s are irregular workers.

From the same month since the start of collecting related statistics, it was calculated that the proportion was the highest ever.

Contact an investigative reporter. Reporter Choi Doo-hee!

First of all, the proportion of irregular workers among wage earners in their 20s was the highest in August since 2003, right?

[기자]

yes Four out of 10 wage earners in their 20s are irregular workers, and this proportion is the highest ever.

According to the National Statistics Portal of the Office for National Statistics, in August, the number of irregular workers among wage earners in their 20s was 1.461 million.

In terms of the proportion of irregular workers among wage earners in their 20s, this figure is equivalent to 43.1%.

In August, this was the highest proportion since 2003, when related statistics began to be collected.

Look at it by type of work.

Among irregular workers in their 20s, the number of so-called ‘part-time workers‘, who work more than an hour shorter than the regular working hours of workers doing the same job in the same workplace, has increased .

The number of part-time workers was 817,000, an increase of 401,000 since 10 years ago.

The proportion of part-time workers among wage earners also almost doubled from 12.4% to 24.1% during the same period.

However, among all the irregular workers, there was a high proportion of people who voluntarily chose irregular jobs?

[기자]

yes Among all irregular workers, 66.6% chose an irregular job voluntarily.

This proportion is also the highest since related statistics were collected, which shows that the number of people voluntarily choosing irregular employment is on the rise.

Among the voluntary reasons, ‘satisfied with working conditions’ was the most common, accounting for 59.9%.

The trend in the job market to favor experienced workers over new recruits and rolling recruitment rather than regular public recruitment appears to have had an impact.

It is analyzed that more young people go into irregular jobs than before to build related careers.

In addition, among young people with employment experience last May, 31.4% were those whose first job was a paid job with a contract period of less than a year.

This was the highest ever since related statistics were published.

It appears that a lack of quality jobs that meet the expectations of young people has led to this increase in irregular employment.
