“Genshin” developer reveals “We won’t be adding ending content like a twist”. In order not to give “undue concern” – AUTOMATON

Genshin]On October 1st, developer HoYovers mentioned the extra end content policy in an interview with foreign media GameSpot. He has explained his intention to avoid adding final content like Abyssal Spiral, saying, “It could cause fans undue anxiety.”

“Genshin” is an open world action RPG developed by Chinese game developer miHoYo and developed under the HoYoverse brand. The player becomes a traveler who has visited the world and adventures on the continent of Taiwat. A story about seven countries is drawn with a vast 3D field and unique characters. Characters and content are added regularly, and on September 28th, the Ver.3.1 update “King of the Red Sand and the Three Pilgrimages” will be introduced. Playable characters like Seno / Neiro / Candice have been implemented, and new main story quests have been added.

HoYovers talks about the development of this work after Ver.3.1 in an interview with GameSpot. Among them, this is the form revealed about the additional policy of including the end of this work. First of all, GameSpot notes that “Abyssal Spiral is pretty much the only final content at this point.” I’m asking if there are plans to add final content with a similar concept to Abyssal Spiral. And HoYoverse replied that they don’t plan to add final content for the same concept. The reason for this is that “adding content like Abyssal Spiral might give players too much anxiety.”

Abyssal Spiral is satisfied that many experienced players visit often in this work. It features a breakthrough type battle stage, divided into 12 tiers in total. The difficulty level is easy up to the 8th floor, and you can only receive clear rewards once. However, after the 9th floor, the difficulty increases, and the rewards are refreshed from time to time. Up to the 12th floor, this is the highest difficulty of this work. It has become the de facto final content that skilled Genshin Impact players will constantly challenge for rewards and tests of strength.

There is room for interpretation as to what kind of player psychologist HoYovers are concerned about “excessive concern”. However, if there is an increase in the number of content that emphasizes fighting power, such as Abyssal Rasen, it will lead to a further intensification of the desire for so-called “strong characters”. And the psychology of the players like “I must have a strong character with prayer (gacha)” and “I must have a variety of characters and be able to handle any battle” are too much. It can also lead to triggering situations.

HoYoverse’s decision to avoid adding “deep spiral” content may be a manifestation of their desire to avoid such trends and create an environment that is easy for beginners to play. In the question above, HoYoverse also said, “Not all players are interested in Abyssal Spiral.” Taking the example of the card game “Seven Saints Summoning”, which is to be implemented in the future “Genshin”, it shows a stance to focus on providing a rich variety of content.

“Genshin” is available for PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5/PC/iOS/Android. Update Ver.3.1 “King of the Red Sand and the Three Pilgrimages” has been distributed since September 28th.
