Speaking through an interpreter after the game, Deng Kaiwei expressed his own assessment: “I thought the shots were pretty good in the first three games. In the fourth game, I made two touch balls and walked, which was the only thing I felt dissatisfied with.”
Managerial Praise and Potential Rotation Shifts
Despite the errors, manager Bob Melvin offered encouraging words, stating, “He gave a better ball than he did on the court. It seemed to be in his control at first. He dropped points in the first game, but that was because of our mistakes and he got out of the situation. It seemed that his ball was better. He was able to lead the ball and could use different balls to let his opponents swing. It was obvious that he hit a few players in the fourth game and then lost control.”
Though, Melvin indicated that a decision regarding Deng Kaiwei’s continued presence in the starting rotation, especially against strong opponents like the Brewers, is still pending.Teammate Maria Guardado suggested that Blade Tidwell, recently acquired from the Mets, could be a potential replacement if a rotation change is deemed necessary.
