‘God of War Ragnarok’ sold 5.1 million copies in its first week alone

A perfect sequel to a great predecessor, whose success was already predicted. God of War Ragnarok. And that success was evident in the first week’s sales.

PlayStation Studio CEO Hermann Hirst and the official PlayStation account revealed the sales volume of God of War Ragnarok via SNS on the 24th. Disc and digital sales of the game sold 5.1 million copies during the week of its release. Since the game is released on the 9th, if you look at the release week record alone, this is the number recorded until Sunday the 13th.

It is common for a significant amount of game sales to be concentrated in the first few days of release, but since the game has received good reviews, it is expected that the subsequent sales trend will also follow. As a result, the actual sales volume on the 24th, when the sales volume for the release week was announced, is expected to be much higher than the announced number.

Meanwhile, this sales figure is the highest record in the God of War franchise and the fastest selling rate among PlayStation first party games. God of War, released on the PlayStation 4, sold approximately 2.26 million copies according to a third-party survey. In other words, the sales trend was more than twice as fast.

God of War Ragnarok is a work that concludes the story of a new God of War that shifted the stage to Norse mythology. In particular, it drew favorable reviews from critics for its expanded narrative design while taking the strengths of its predecessor. The game director Eric Williams, who recently appeared on the podcast channel Kinda Funny Games, also showed a relatively negative opinion about the completion of the story and the DLC story, so the God of War series is expected to use this success as a stepping stone step to move towards the next work.
