Google Cloud experienced widespread outages Thursday, impacting numerous online services. The issues, which began at 10:51 a.m. PT, affected multiple Google Cloud Platform (GCP) products, according to the google Cloud status page. The incident is a setback as Google aims to enhance its cloud infrastructure and compete with Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.
Shopify, a major Google Cloud customer, acknowledged the issue on X, noting that several of its services were affected. OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, also reported problems with single sign-on and other login methods. Downdetector showed over 13,000 reported incidents for Google Cloud around 11:30 a.m. PT, though the number decreased later in the day.
A Google spokesperson confirmed the service disruption and directed users to the Google Cloud dashboard for updates. The outages impacted 13 Google cloud services across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Other services experiencing disruptions included Amazon’s Twitch, CoreWeave’s Weights and Biases, Elastic, GitLab, LangChain, Microsoft’s github, Replit, and Intuit’s Mailchimp.
Thomas Kurian, Google Cloud’s CEO, posted on X Thursday evening that all services were back online. “We have been hard at work on the outage today and we are now fully restored across all regions and products,” Kurian wrote. “We regret the disruption this caused our customers.”
Cloudflare, a web security and content distribution network provider, also reported issues starting late morning Pacific time.
