What’s New for Google Workspace Video Editors?
Google has introduced a significant time-saver for Workspace users: a direct shortcut to edit videos within Google Drive.Previously, editing required manually opening files in Google Vids. Now, when previewing a video stored in Drive, a prominent ”Open” button appears in the top right corner, launching the file directly into the Google Vids editor. This streamlined process allows for quick edits like trimming clips, adding music, adn incorporating text overlays.
How the New Shortcut works
The integration is designed to be seamless. The “Open” button will appear during video previews within Google Drive. Clicking this button automatically opens the video in Google Vids, ready for editing.Workspace association administrators have the option to disable the shortcut if needed, providing control over feature availability within their teams. The rollout began on August 21st,2025,but Google anticipates it may take up to two weeks for the update to reach all users.
Part of a Larger Trend of Video Enhancements
This new shortcut isn’t an isolated improvement. Google has been actively enhancing the video experience within Drive over the past year. In October 2024, they unveiled a redesigned video player, offering a more modern and user-amiable interface. Further building on this, Google introduced a Gemini-powered feature in May that automatically summarizes the content of videos stored in Drive, saving users valuable time.
