Government Savings Bank Offers Assistance to Debtors Affected by COVID-19 Crisis

Government Savings Bank (GSB) has recently announced measures to support individuals during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Under the initiative “Loans for Expenses for Self-Employed Individuals Affected by COVID-19,” GSB provides a credit limit of up to 10,000 baht per person, totaling 20,000 million baht, to aid in the fight against COVID-19. This financial assistance serves as temporary liquidity for those who faced income loss due to previous crises. In August 2023, GSB extended the loan program, allowing individuals affected by COVID-19 to apply for assistance until October 2024.

However, with the economic situation still in recovery and living costs on the rise, income levels and debt repayment capacities have been affected. To provide relief to debtors impacted by the COVID-19 crisis, the Government Savings Bank has implemented new measures. Under this program, debtors with Non-Performing Loan (NPL) status (account 21) will have their credit returned to normal status. These measures include waiving all interest charges, reducing outstanding interest amounts, and applying the paid funds towards the entire principal amount.

Debtors can begin repayment with installments as low as 100 baht per month for the first six payments, and 300 baht per month for the next six payments.
