Heatwave Grips Southern Europe: Greece and Turkey Issue strong Warnings
Southern Europe is once again sweltering under intense heat, prompting authorities in both Greece and Turkey to issue stark warnings and implement protective measures. The mercury is soaring, reminding residents and tourists of the dangers posed by extreme temperatures.
Greece Faces Record-Breaking Temperatures
Just at the beginning of July, Greece experienced such severe heat that the Ministry of Labor was compelled to enact similar protective measures.the iconic Acropolis,a must-see for visitors, had to be temporarily closed during the hottest parts of the day. This decision was made to safeguard both tourists and the dedicated employees working at the ancient site.
Currently, visits to the Acropolis are not subject to the same limitations, but the memory of the earlier closures serves as a potent reminder of the heat’s impact.
Turkey Braces for Extreme Heat
The Turkish weather service is also sounding the alarm, forecasting strong heatwaves that are expected to persist until friday. In Diyarbakir, located in the southeastern part of the country, temperatures are predicted to reach a staggering 45 degrees Celsius.
Popular holiday destinations like Antalya and the Aegean coast are also bracing for extreme heat, with thermometers expected to climb to 40 degrees Celsius. Authorities are urging particular caution, advising that children and the elderly should remain indoors until the early evening hours to avoid the most intense heat.
