Green youth calls for investments in public transport or resignation

Transport companies nationwide are suffering from a persistent shortage of staff. Bus drivers are particularly difficult to find. Now the Green Youth is calling for investments – or Wissing’s resignation.

The Green Youth has called for investments in local transport – or the resignation of Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP). “The transport minister himself has been willfully helping to drive our public transport to the brink of collapse for two years now,” said Svenja Appuhn, one of the two spokespeople for the Greens’ youth organization, to the media outlet Table.Media. Wissing now has two options: “Either he presents an investment program in the next few weeks or he resigns. The SPD and the Greens also have to show what is more important to them – the austerity dictate or functioning local transport.”

Massive lines are already being canceled across Germany because there is a lack of staff, said Appuhn. “All of this is not a coincidence, but the result of bad political decisions.”
