Grimsby Town Football Club has acknowledged a registration error concerning a player during their recent FA Cup victory against Manchester United. The club self-reported the issue to the English Football League (EFL),who determined the mistake was unintentional.

“Registration is entered into EFL past one minute from the deadline and this problem is not immediately identified by the club becuase the computer has a problem,” the Grimsby statement read. “We received a fine that was dropped and fully realized the importance of obedient to the rules of the competition. This mistake was unintentional and the club acted transparently by reporting on his own violation as soon as possible after being discovered.”
Following the match, some Manchester United supporters called for the game to be replayed or Grimsby’s win to be forfeited.
