Group infection at educational institutions such as elementary schools and daycare centers in Busan… 38 confirmed in the morning

In Busan, the spread of infection is centered on multi-use facilities, with cluster infections occurring in educational facilities such as elementary schools and daycare centers.

According to the city of Busan on the 5th, 5 people on the afternoon of the previous day and 38 people on the morning of that day tested positive, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 12,960.

Among the new confirmed cases, 34 were in contact with an existing confirmed case, and 9 were patients with unknown sources of infection.

On that day, a new cluster infection occurred at two educational facilities, including an elementary school and a daycare center.

At an elementary school in Busanjin-gu, on the 4th, after one student (indicator patient) was confirmed with symptoms, two students and three family contacts were additionally confirmed on the same day in a complete examination of 157 contacts.

In a daycare center in Gangseo-gu, after one child was confirmed on the 3rd, eight additional confirmed cases, including 5 children and 3 contacts, were confirmed in a complete examination of 91 contacts.

Two additional contacts were confirmed in relation to a public bathhouse in the West, where the group infection occurred earlier. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 16 (2 workers, 8 users, 6 contacts).

Regarding the business in Yangsan-si, Gyeongnam, 9 employees were confirmed that day, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 26 (24 employees, 2 family members).

On the same day, 46 patients were cured and released from quarantine. There were no fatalities.

Currently, 499 people are receiving treatment in Busan, of which 9 are critically ill.

The day before, 1,540 people received the first dose of the vaccine, and 12,798 people completed the second dose. Compared to the total population of Busan, the primary vaccination rate was 76.9% and the secondary vaccination rate was 54.1%.
