AUSTIN, Texas – Marco Bezzecchi expressed satisfaction with his performance at the Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin, despite starting from 13th on the grid and finishing sixth. Bezzecchi closed the race just 0.381 seconds behind Jack Miller, narrowly missing a top-five finish.
While pleased with his race pace, Bezzecchi acknowledged that qualifying remains an area for improvement. He aims to address this weakness heading into the Qatar Grand Prix, scheduled for April 11-13. There is speculation that Jorge Martin may join the Aprilia team for that race, possibly riding an RS-GP25.
Bezzecchi Reflects on Texas Performance
Speaking to Sky Sport MotoGP,Bezzecchi highlighted the positive trajectory of his weekend. “We where a little late,” he said, referring to initial struggles on Friday. “Saturday went a little better, and Sunday even more so.I liked the bike more and more, especially in the second half of the race. I managed to turn strong,I had fun,I came up and overtook them. It was cool.”
Bezzecchi noted that the aprilia RS-GP exhibits some instability under braking, a characteristic the team is working to mitigate. “That’s what we suffer a little,” Bezzecchi confirmed, “especially with new tires. we miss a little stability. The bike tends to become more nervous and more difficult to drive, so it is difficult to bring out the maximum of the performance as we put the new tires. Also at the begining of the race I always do a little effort. This is a feature that our bike has and we must try to tan it slightly to be able to make everything a little more fluid.”
Tire Choice Proves Advantageous
Bezzecchi also explained the decision to run a soft rear tire.”Even on Saturday we had not suffered from consumption or temperature,” he said. “As difficult as the bike is more difficult to drive with the Soft,in the end it does not attack the rubber too much and this is a great strong point that it has. It worked well,I was quite sure that I would compete with the soft. In the Warm Up I had tried the average to remove the doubt, but then I was super steadfast to put the soft.”
Despite wanting more from the Austin race, Bezzecchi remains optimistic. “On friday we had various problems and a worst start than that we didn’t expect it. We had a return one day, that was the bad luck. We will surely need lessons for the next few times. With what we had I feel I did my best in the race, I’m happy. Though until I can do a good weekend I will never be 100%happy. A little bitterness in my mouth remains.”
Martin’s Potential Return to Bolster Aprilia Progress
Addressing the limitations of the Aprilia RS-GP,Bezzecchi suggested that Jorge Martin’s potential return could aid in finding solutions to improve the bike’s stability. Martin, recovering from injury, is aiming to participate in the Qatar Grand Prix, pending medical clearance.
While it remains uncertain whether martin will be able to complete the entire Qatar weekend, his return to the Aprilia RS-GP would be a welcome development for the team. Martin was present in Austin, offering support, as he continues to work towards his return to racing.
