Guizhou Aims to Increase New Energy Vehicle Sales to 700,000 by 2026

The Guizhou provincial government plans to have the number of new energy vehicles reach 700,000 by 2026, making up 40% of new car sales in the region, according to the Director of the Guizhou Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, Ao Hong.

In an effort to drive green, low carbon, and circular development, the General Office of the Guizhou Provincial People’s Government has recently released guidelines to accelerate the high-quality development of the new energy vehicle industry and advance the construction of “Electric Guizhou.”

Under the guidelines, Guizhou aims to significantly promote the adoption of new energy vehicles. Starting from 2024, new energy vehicles will comprise more than 90% of new and updated urban buses in all cities, with Guiyang City aiming for 100% adoption.

To support the growth of new energy vehicles, Guizhou plans to expand the charging and exchanging infrastructure in public parking facilities, including large shopping malls, supermarkets, cultural and sports venues, transportation centers, and parking lots. Additionally, all newly built residential areas will have charging infrastructure for 100% of fixed parking spaces, meeting safety requirements.

Furthermore, Guizhou intends to create a favorable environment for new energy vehicles by devising preferential policies for highway tolls and parking lots. They will also implement peak and valley electricity pricing to reduce the overall cost of utilizing new energy vehicles.

Guizhou has experienced rapid growth in the number of new energy vehicles in recent years, with a figure reaching 165,000 by the end of 2022. Additionally, the province has successfully achieved full charging pile coverage in every town and village.
