Martin Odegaard Sidelined with Ankle Injury
Arsenal’s English playmaker and captain, Norwegian international Martin Odegaard, will be out of action for some time due to an ankle injury, according to his Spanish coach, Mikel Arteta.
Odegaard suffered the injury during Norway’s European Nations League match against Austria earlier this month. Initially, the national team doctor expected him to be sidelined for less than three weeks.
However, after conducting further tests, Arteta revealed that the injury is more severe than initially thought. “There was some damage, especially to a ligament in the ankle, so we will miss him,” Arteta told reporters ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League opener against Italian Atalanta.
Arteta refrained from setting a specific timeframe for Odegaard’s recovery, citing the importance of the matter and the need for caution. “I don’t want to (set a time frame for it) because I’m not a doctor, but the matter is very important, so we will lose him for a while, hopefully not for a few months, but let’s see.”
Odegaard will miss Arsenal’s upcoming top-flight clash with Manchester City. The Gunners are currently second in the league with ten points from the opening four games, two points behind defending champions Manchester City.
