Some people complained of pain after the accident and presented medical certificates, so the number of minor injuries increased from 14 to 25.

This accident occurred at around 4.09pm on the 25th of last month when a left wheel of a 25-ton cargo trailer traveling in the direction of Seoul on the Gyeongbu Expressway in Gongdo-eup, Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do fell off . . This wheel crossed the median and entered the oncoming lane, in the direction of Busan, broke the windshield of a tourist bus traveling on this road, hit the driver and passengers sitting diagonally behind it and stopped in the central corridor.

The police found that the left wheel of the third axle, the variable axle of the trailer, was missing. 3-row variable axle is a type of auxiliary wheel axle additionally installed on the rear wheels where the load of the cargo is concentrated and moves up and down. When unloaded, it can float without touching the ground, and when the load is heavy, the wheels lower to distribute the weight. Police believe the wheel was rolling as it hit the ground at the time of the crash. This wheel has a diameter of more than 1 m and is a double wheel with two tires. The weight is also estimated to exceed 150 kg.

The police are investigating the driver of the trailer, Mr. Hwang, for allegedly violating the Special Traffic Accident Law (causing death). Police have requested an analysis of the trailer and wheels from the National Forensic Service to determine the cause of the wheels falling off. Police believe it will take a long time to arrive at the results because precise identification is needed.

A police official said: “We are currently awaiting the results of the National Forensic Service analysis” and added: “It is difficult to confirm further details as the investigation is ongoing.”
