Around 11 am on this day, a mysterious man with an unknown name arrived at the Deokcheon District Unit of Busan North Police Station. When a police officer on holiday duty approached, the man put the box he was holding on the floor and disappeared without looking back. Inside the envelope were 30 1,000 won bills full of wrinkles and folds. In the attached letter, the man’s circumstances, the process of obtaining snacks and money, and the reason why he decided to donate were written in neat handwriting as follows.
“Hi. I am a father of three. My eldest son has a level 3 disability and we are a beneficiary family. Clothes, snacks and cash were earned with the little money I saved by selling waste paper. It’s not much, but I worked hard for a month to save as much as I could, but my ability was limited, so I could only save about 30,000 won in cash to buy clothes and snacks. It’s a small amount, but please accept it, and I’m sorry I can’t do much. “I hope that on the occasion of Children’s Day the money will be given to the families of needy children so that they can at least buy pizza.”
It turned out that this was not the man’s first donation. After examining CCTV cameras, the police reportedly confirmed that this man was the same person as the donor who left 45,000 won, collected by selling waste paper, to be used for police officers and firefighters injured in a fire in Dong-gu, Busan last year. Additionally, cash, snacks and clothes were dropped off on Children’s Day last year. Even then he left a handwritten letter in which he introduced himself as a “father of three children, whose eldest son is a level 3 disabled person”. It is said that this was already the man’s third donation.
Police said: “This person was going to take a box to the community centre, but it appears he took it to the district office because it was a public holiday. He added: “The employees who worked during the holiday were also very moved by his angelic heart.” She then announced that she intends to deliver the donation box left by the man to the Administrative Assistance Center so that it can be sent to needy children as requested.
