People Power Party Emergency Response Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon visited Gwangju on the 15th and appealed for support in the general election, saying, “If we are elected in Honam, it will not be a victory for the People Power Party, but a victory for the Republic of Korea.” Regarding the party’s Nomination Management Committee the previous day withdrawing its nomination of Candidate Do Tae-woo, who had previously raised the theory of North Korea’s involvement in the May 18th Democratization Movement, Chairman Han said, “How do I and the People Power Party accept and respect the May 18th Democratization Movement?” “I think it was shown more clearly,” he said.

On this day, Chairman Han toured the Honam region, including Suncheon and Gwangju in Jeollanam-do and Jeonju in Jeollabuk-do. At Chungjang-ro, Gwangju, a symbol of the May 18 Uprising, Chairman Han emphasized the fact that the People Power Party has submitted candidates to all constituencies in Honam for the first time in 16 years and said, “I definitely want to win in Honam.” The People Power Party’s goal is to win one seat each in Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk in this general election. Chairman Han’s visit to Honam comes about two months after visiting the May 18th National Cemetery on January 4th.

Chairman Han said, “Because of the events that have happened over the past few days, our staff suggested that we avoid Gwangju and Honam. I have never thought about that.” This indirectly mentioned the controversy related to Candidate Do. Regarding the nature of this general election, Chairman Han said, “It is not a matter of ideology, but a matter of choosing the forces that want to move the Republic of Korea backward and the forces that want to move forward,” and added, “We will definitely block forces like Cho Kuk, Lee Jae-myung, and the remnants of the Unified Progressive Party.” Chairman Han said, “If we do well in Gwangju and Honam, it will further stimulate the Democratic Party politicians who were sitting and doing politics,” and added, “That is blocked now.” Chairman Han said, “Our purpose is one. “It’s about protecting the honor of Gwangju citizens and improving their lives,” he said. “We can do it better than the Democratic Party.” “What has the Democratic Party done so far?” he asked.

Chairman Han visited Jeonju Hanok Village and said, “I remember walking around here with my family wearing a rented hanbok not long ago. It’s a really cool place.” “What a beautiful road it is.” Chairman Han said, “But why is this beautiful Jeonbuk region not developing properly? “It is because we have lost political balance,” he said, urging support.

Many party members, supporters, and YouTubers gathered around Chairman Han. Some citizens raised their voices by holding picket signs, such as ‘Impeach Yoon Seok-yeol, who pressured Lee Jong-seop to investigate overseas embezzlement from the Marine Corps’, and ‘Special prosecutor Kim Geon-hee.’ There were also arguments between citizens. Chairman Han said, “Honestly, I came prepared to be treated poorly,” and “But so many people have gathered and are applauding.” “I won’t forget,” he said.

Chairman Han met with reporters after a meeting with companies residing in the Gwangju Realistic Content Cube and said, “If Candidate Do reflects to that extent, I think our party can accept even if he had the wrong position at a certain time in the past.” He added, “The decision of the diplomatic committee will be made later.” “As other issues were mentioned, it seemed like people thought it would be difficult to maintain nominations, and I agree with them,” he said. It was implied that the main reason for the withdrawal of nomination was the fact that Candidate Do had made harsh remarks toward former Presidents Roh Moo-hyun and Moon Jae-in the day before.

Prior to this, Chairman Han visited Suncheon Utjang, exchanged greetings with market merchants and citizens, and took a ‘selfie’. While some citizens cheered and asked for autographs by shouting “Han Dong-hoon,” there were also merchants who complained, saying, “The crowd of people is interfering with business.” At a citizens’ meeting in Suncheon, Chairman Han made a surprising announcement that he had discussed with the government a plan to invest an additional 150 billion won in emergency price stabilization funds for agricultural and livestock products starting on the 18th.

Chairman Han held a meeting with Jeonju youth on this day and explained his political reform plan. Regarding the reduction of the number of lawmakers by 50, he said, “Reducing (the number of lawmakers) to 250 speaks of proportionality (representation),” and added, “They openly say that they will take over if so-and-so goes to jail, and under normal circumstances they would not even dare to join the National Assembly.” “It’s a structure where even extremely left-wing people who can’t afford to come in are brought in, and criminals are also brought in,” he said. It criticized the proportional representation alliance of the Democratic Party and the Progressive Party and the proportional representation run of Cho Kuk, the leader of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, who was convicted in the second trial. Chairman Han said that he was preparing a program to support living expenses to foster young politicians, adding, “I plan to attach great importance to that as I continue to lead the party after winning the general election. So please let me survive.”
