A Decade of Relationship History
The couple first met in 2012 while both were performing stand-up comedy at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They did not begin dating until 2014, when a mutual friend arranged a date for them.
Following that meeting, they did not see each other again for four months, at which point Cave discovered she was pregnant. Their first child, a son named Donnie, was born in October 2014.
The family expanded in 2016 with the birth of their first daughter, Margot. However, the couple experienced a period of separation following the birth of their second child.
Cave and Brown eventually reunited and welcomed their third child, a son named Abraham, in 2020. Their fourth child, another son named Becker, was born in 2022.
Recent Challenges and Reconciliation
The path to engagement included several personal and public challenges. The couple reportedly split secretly in 2025 before reconciling shortly thereafter.

Toward the end of 2025, Cave spoke candidly about the difficulties the couple had faced. In January 2026, she posted a reflection on the previous year, describing 2025 as hard but beautiful
.
During 2025, the family underwent a significant transition, moving from a small flat in London, where Cave had lived her entire life, to a new home in Liverpool.
To help manage their relationship dynamics, the couple launched a joint podcast titled “Before We Break Up Again.” Cave has stated that the podcast has functioned as a form of couples therapy and served as a reminder of her interests outside of pregnancy and child-rearing.
Alfie Brown, the son of impressionist Jan Ravens and composer Steve Brown, also faced professional scrutiny in 2023. He issued an apology after footage surfaced of him using a racist slur in 2015.
Industry and Family Reactions
The news of the engagement was met with congratulations from family members and colleagues within the entertainment industry.
Cave’s sister, Bebe Cave, expressed her support in the comments of the announcement post, writing, Love you allllllllll so much
.
Fellow comedian Steve Bugeja also offered his congratulations to the couple. Scarlett Hefner, who played Pansy Parkinson in the Harry Potter films, sent her best wishes to Cave and Brown.
