Gun Call Leads to Crash and Arrest in Hartford
HARTFORD, Conn. – A man was arrested Saturday night following a report of a firearm and a subsequent vehicle crash in Hartford, according to police.
The incident began when officers responded to a call reporting a man pointing a firearm at another individual. Upon arrival, the suspect reportedly fled in a vehicle.
Police initially lost sight of the vehicle, but it was later located after the suspect crashed on Myrtle Street. A brief foot pursuit followed, resulting in the suspect’s arrest.
During the incident, a magazine from a firearm was recovered, officials said. The suspect sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.
No further details regarding the suspect’s identity or potential charges were immediately released. The investigation is ongoing.
The arrest follows a separate incident earlier this month in Hartford, where a New Britain man, Tyquan Dechalus, was arrested on February 1st on gun and drug charges, according to reports. Dechalus was found in possession of both a firearm and narcotics.
This latest incident occurred just hours after emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle crash on I-84 in Waterbury early Sunday morning, as reported by WFSB. The highway lanes were temporarily closed as crews worked to clear the scene.
Elsewhere in the state, authorities were also responding to a fire at UConn’s Horsebarn Hill on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of four sheep. Police were also searching for lost hikers on Ragged Mountain in Southington and a missing 55-year-old woman last seen in Somers.
Valentine’s Day celebrations also contributed to a busy weekend for restaurants in downtown Middletown, with establishments reportedly experiencing record spending.
