Brazilian star Romario, the 1994 World Cup champion, announced his return to the field and his reversal of his retirement decision, which he took 15 years ago to help the club he heads.
Romario, 58 years old, was included in the roster of the America Rio de Janeiro team, which is competing in the second division of the Carioca Championship. Romario will participate in the ranks of the team that is going through an economic crisis to play with his son Romarinho, who joined the team last March.
Romario posted on his Instagram account: “I will not participate in all the rounds of the tournament…but I will play some matches with my heart’s team and fulfill my last dream of playing alongside my son.”
Since his retirement in 2009, Romario has been involved in politics, and was elected to the Brazilian Senate in 2015, and was renewed in 2022. Romario will receive the lowest salary in the team and will donate it to the team he heads.
