Huawei Launches Pura70 Series with Kirin 9010 Chip Using SMIC’s 7nm Technology: What to Expect?

Huawei renames the P-series smartphones as Pura and launches the Huawei Pura70 series using the new Kirin 9010 chip, but unboxing the device reveals that the Kirin 9010 still uses the same 7nm manufacturing technology as the Kirin 9000S used in the Huawei Mate60 like before.

Unpacking the Huawei Pura70 Ultra, it turned out that the Kirin 9010 chip was manufactured by SMIC with the same 7nm technology as the Kirin 9000S. Therefore, it is very likely that SMIC’s currently available manufacturing technology is only at the 7nm level. According to previous reports on this page it is said that SMIC has purchased chip manufacturing machines from the United States.

SMIC itself has few manufacturing options beyond reusing old technology. But it is worth hoping that SMIC will be able to upgrade its production to 5nm technology by the end of this year.

It may be lucky for Huawei and SMIC that they managed to find a machine to produce high-tech (level one) chips in time before the US authorities implemented a serious ban. Subsequently, Huawei and SMIC had to find a way to independently develop chip manufacturing technology.
