Hull Man Jailed for Decades of Sexual Abuse
– Martin Tidder, 36, of Hull, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison following a trial at Hull Crown Court, where he was found guilty of multiple sex offences against boys. He will also remain on the sex offenders register for life, Humberside Police announced today.
Tidder was convicted of four counts of rape, five counts of assaulting a boy by touching, four counts of causing or inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and one count of sexual assault of a child. The offences took place over a period of years, inflicting lasting trauma on his victims.
One of the victims released a statement through Humberside Police, expressing a desire to break the silence surrounding childhood sexual abuse. “Some men never share their abuse, some reveal it on their deathbed, I want to change that. I want to stand by those boys and tell them it is okay to speak out,” the statement read. The victim described feeling “complicit” without understanding the wrongfulness of Tidder’s actions, and the difficulty of coping with the trauma.
The victim continued, “It’s as though I always knew, even then, how wrong it was but without the developed mind and emotional understanding to know how to cope with it.” They expressed hope for rebuilding their life and overcoming the “black cloud” of abuse.
Details revealed during the trial included allegations that Tidder showed one of his victims “cartoon porn” and sexually assaulted a victim after waking them up. Another victim alleged a pattern of rape over an 11-year period, with a third victim coming forward with similar reports shortly after.
Detective Constable Rebecca Davison of Humberside Police described Tidder as a “sordid individual” and emphasized the force’s commitment to pursuing justice in cases of rape and sexual offences, both recent and historical. “We take reports of rape and other sexual offences, both recent and non-recent, extremely seriously and will continue to seek justice for those who have suffered at the hands of such sordid individuals like Tidder,” she said.
The sentencing comes amid other recent cases in Hull. Just yesterday, , Michael Wilkinson, 30, from Hull, was jailed for eight years and given a lifetime restraining order after being found guilty of raping a woman shortly after she gave birth. Wilkinson had denied two counts of rape in September 2025, but was found guilty of one charge following a trial at Hull Crown Court.
Other recent cases reported in Hull include the jailing of Shahram Ibrehemi and Riley Smith for the rape of a teenage girl in a hotel room, and the sentencing of Liam Best over a “random” acid attack. These cases highlight a concerning pattern of violent crime in the area, prompting increased police patrols on buses to address antisocial behaviour.
The Hull Crown Court has been busy in recent days, with several significant sentences handed down. The court continues to address a backlog of cases, reflecting the ongoing efforts to ensure justice for victims and hold offenders accountable.
