Hyundai E&C made a full start in the new marine space construction market business by recruiting world-renowned scholars in shipbuilding and marine engineering.

Hyundai E&C announced on the 1st that it has recruited professor emeritus Masashi Kashiwagi, who served as a professor of shipbuilding and marine engineering for 36 years at Osaka University and Kyushu University in Japan, as a technical advisor.

Hyundai E&C explained that Professor Kashiwagi is the world’s top shipbuilding and marine engineering scholar who served as chairman of the Japan Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Association, a powerhouse in marine port technology.

Japan has been researching floating structures since the 1970s, and from 1995 to 2000, held a mega floating demonstration project for the construction of a large resolution city off the coast of Yokosuka at the entrance of Tokyo Bay. A runway with a length of 1 km and a width of 121 m was laid on the sea, and a 60-seater aircraft carried out 350 successful take-off and landing tests. Hyundai E&C plans to strengthen its competitiveness in mobile infrastructure construction by utilizing Professor Kashiwagi’s accumulated expertise, rich field experience, and technical network in Japan.

Previously, Hyundai E&C has been conducting international industry-academic research activities related to floating structures with overseas universities such as Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University and Australia’s University of Queensland, which focus on marine development.
