Hyundai Motor America is recalling 294,128 vehicles in the United States due to a defect that may cause the seat belt anchors for the driver and passenger to detach.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that a detached seat belt anchor will not adequately restrain the seat occupant
, which increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Affected Models and Scope
The recall impacts several makes and models across the Hyundai and Genesis brands, covering model years from 2023 to 2026. Specifically, the recall affects the following vehicles:
- Certain 2023-2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6
- 2023-2026 Genesis G90
- 2024-2026 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid
The decision to initiate the safety recall was made on March 30, 2026, by the North America Safety Decision Authority (NASDA), which is part of the NASO organization.
Remediation and Owner Notification
To address the defect, authorized dealers will inspect the seat belt anchors. Based on the results of the inspection, dealers will either reinforce or replace the anchors as necessary. These services will be provided free of charge to the vehicle owners.
Hyundai expects to mail notification letters to the affected vehicle owners on June 5, 2026.
