The fact that the late Lee Dae-jun, a public official of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, was assassinated by North Korean forces in the West Sea was reported to President Moon Jae-in only 10 hours after the incident occurred.

According to Channel A reports on the 13th, the then government received information that Mr. Lee was shot and killed by the North Korean military on September 22, 2020 at around 10:30 pm.

At the time, then Director of the National Security Office, Suh Hoon, presided over an emergency ministerial meeting at 1 am on the 23rd, and it is known that President Moon was at his official residence at the same time.

Afterwards, President Moon received a report of the shooting from Chief Executive Officer Seo at 8:30 am on the 23rd, about 10 hours after the intelligence was obtained.

The Blue House explained that “the report to the president was delayed due to the lack of credibility of the intelligence.”

They told Channel A, “I reported it to the superior and they told me to shoot it”, “I shot it. It doesn’t move”, “I’ll incinerate it. It’s burnt out”, etc.

At that time, the government sent a notice to North Korea through the UNC’s Panmunjom channel only 18 hours after Mr. Lee was shot, and then Director Seo announced the notice he received from Chairman Kim Jong-un as it was.

Meanwhile, Rep. Ha Tae-kyung, who was in charge of the task force for the investigation into the attack of a civil servant at the Ministry of National Power, said in an interview with the press on the same day, “Former NIS director Seo Hoon, who went to the United States on the 22nd of last month, seems to have announced that he will not return for the time being. The government should revoke his passport and ask Interpol to investigate.”
