(Continuation of Interview ①) Im Si-wan, who hails from Busan, had to use a completely different dialect from the one he used until now, as ‘Boys’ Generation’ is set in Chungcheong province. When asked how he prepared for acting in the dialect of Chungcheong Province, he said, “It was about a month and a half to two months before filming started. “When I was learning the dialect, I went down to Buyeo to feel the local vibe,” he began.

He continued, “I tried to listen to the local dialect, but there were fewer people on the streets than I expected. I went to a chicken restaurant to eat, and the owner was a couple who seemed to have lived in Chungcheong province for a long time.

I thought, ‘Let’s try a dialect here,’ so I kept talking, asking, ‘What’s delicious?’ Later, when I finished eating the chicken and was about to pay, the owner asked, ‘Are you from Seoul?’ “After that, I didn’t know what to say, so I left quietly,” he said, causing laughter.

Another point to watch in ‘Boys’ Generation’ is Im Si-wan’s actions as he changes from Ji-ji to a fighter. Im Si-wan, who said, “I went into filming with the wish not to get injured,” said he warmed up his body by boxing and digested the action scenes while his senses were alert. , trying to transform into the fighter Jang Byeong -tae.

“I had many discussions with the director about whether to create a body based on Jang Byeong-tae, who was stubborn at the beginning, or Jang Byeong-tae, who strives for revenge in the second half. The director suggested Jang Byeong-tae’s body in the last part of the movie, so he worked hard, but during filming, I thought that Jang Byeong-tae, who keeps his oiliness, would go well with the appearance of a high school student. who has a hard time becoming perfect no matter what he does. So, I told the director and from then on I completely stopped doing exercises that strengthen my body, like pull-ups.”

Although it is a comedy, it is true that it is sensitive as it deals with violence at school. When asked about this, Im Si-wan opened up and said, “I hoped that it would not glorify violence and bring up painful memories for anyone.”

At the same time, he said, “I decided to shoot in a way that I didn’t want the violence itself to be realistic. There was a scene where Park Ji-young (played by Lee Sun-bin), a black spider, was hitting Jang Byeong-tae because he kept hitting on him, and I thought, ‘I really need to show a scene like this ?’ So, we filmed it in a way that when Park Ji-young would hit her, the camera would fall down. Isn’t that enough for viewers to know that Jang Byung-tae is right? “I really wanted this to be seen as a comedy,” he added.

Im Si-wan, who has been recognized for her acting skills through various works such as the films ‘The Attorney’, ‘Emergency Declaration’, ‘1947 Boston’, and the plays ‘Misaeng’, ‘Strangers from Hell’, and ‘The Moon Embraces the Sun’. He recently grabbed attention by confirming his appearance in Season 2 of the Netflix series ‘Squid Game’, which had a global impact through Season 1.

When asked about his thoughts, Siwan said, “I still can’t believe it because it was an amazing opportunity for me. Not only because it is a worldwide success, but because it is a genre that I love.

I remember watching Season 1 of ‘Squid Game’ because it was so much fun that I binged it all at once and called Byung-Hun Lee as soon as it was over and said, ‘This is awesome.’ Going into season 2 of work I was so engrossed in, I think something unbelievable happened,” he says with a happy smile.

Finally, Im Siwan said when saying goodbye to ‘Boys’ Generation’, “I hope people will see it as a completely light comedy. “This is not a drama that ends with the painful reality that a weak person remains weak, so I hope you will watch it until the end with a heart of support for Jang Byung-tae.”
