Microsoft Office Suite Now Available on Meta Quest Store: What You Need to Know

Citing news from UploadVR, MIXED and other media, Microsoft has finally moved the three-part Office suite, namely Word, Excel and PowerPoint, to the Meta Quest store. In fact, they announced it already at the 2022 Meta Connect conference, but it hasn’t officially launched in the store until now.

According to the store page, these three apps support multiple headsets from Quest to Quest 3 and support gesture tracking and keyboard tracking, meaning users can type with a physical Bluetooth keyboard and use their hands as mouse cursors , without the need for a touch handle. . These applications will be presented as a 2D plane in the viewer, so they also support Quest’s multi-window operation.

Also note that the space required by these three applications is also very small, 2.31 MB, and requires an Internet connection when using, which also means that these are actually PWAs (Progressive Web Applications). In a sense, they are actually shortcuts that help you get directly to the web version of Office. As for cost, although the application is available for free, users must have a Microsoft 365 subscription to use it.

Previously, Microsoft brought Xbox cloud gaming to the Quest store. According to the Microsoft CEO’s speech at the Meta Connect 2022 conference, we should also see more Microsoft applications, such as Windows 365 cloud computers, coming to Quest devices in the future.

By the way, although the VR office concept sounds interesting, it is quite tiring to hold a headset for a long time, especially a device like the Quest 2. Furthermore, the battery life of the headset is also a factor to consider.
