Doha: Brazil won the Fans Sevens Tournament organized as part of Expat Sportive’s year-long Indian Fans Fiesta. Brazil beat Denmark 1-0 in the tournament at the Misamis Occidental Hamilton International School Grounds. Fans of the teams that secured tickets to Qatar to cheer on the World Cup cheers – took to the field in their jerseys. Brazil beat Qatar by one goal in the semi-finals to advance to the final, while Denmark qualified for the final by beating Germany in a long battle to a penalty shootout.
Denmark’s Rashid was named Brazil’s top scorer and Denmark’s best goalkeeper in the tournament. Fans Fiesta Chairman Suhail Shanthapuram presented the trophy and Nadumuttam President Sajna Zaki presented the prize money. Fans Fiesta General Convener Thaseen Amin, Organizing Committee members Shahnawaz Khalid, Mohammad Kunhi, Sharafu Vadakangara, Mohammad Rafi, Sadiq Chennadan, Siddique Vengara, Radhakrishnan, Rashid Kollam, Ahmed Shafi, Sharif Chirakkal and Anas Jamal distributed the prizes.
The inauguration ceremony, which was earlier witnessed by hundreds of expatriates, was attended by Qatar’s football legends, FIFA World Cup Qatar legacy ambassadors Khalid Salman Al Muhannadi, Ibrahim Khalfan, Qatar’s interior ministry officials and Apex body officials under the Indian Embassy.
