INE: Committee defines final list of aspiring directors

The Technical Evaluation Committee published yesterday the list of the 20 applicants that will make up the four quintets that will be taken into account, on March 30, by the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies to elect three councilors and the first president councilor of the National Electoral Institute (INE).

The list is headed by Bertha María Alcalde Luján, sister of the Secretary of Labor, Luisa María Alcalde; Netzaí Sandoval Ballesteros, brother of deputy Pablo Sandoval; Bernardo Valle Monroy, advisor to the Electoral Institute of Mexico City and close to the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum.

Also, Guadalupe Taddei Zavala, commissioner of the Transparency Institute of Sonora. Her cousin is a super delegate of the government in that state, Jorge Luis Taddei Bringas.

In addition, Miriam Hinojosa Dieck, former counselor of the Electoral Institute of Nuevo León; Guadalupe Álvarez Rascón, graduate of the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE); Rebeca Barrera Amador, former President of the State Electoral Institute of Baja California Sur; and Armando Hernández Cruz, former president of the Electoral Tribunal of Mexico City.

Also, Víctor Humberto Mejía Naranjo, electoral advisor at the Electoral Institute and Citizen Participation of Tabasco, and Rita Bell López Vences, former electoral advisor of the IEEPCO of Oaxaca.

Maite Azuela, a member of the committee, expressed her particular vote, because she considered that some profiles in the final list did not meet the standards of autonomy and independence. They are: Bertha Alcalde Luján, Guadalupe Álvarez Rascón, Guadalupe Taddei Zavala, Zircey Bautista Arreola, Netzai Sandoval Ballesteros and Víctor Humberto Mejía.

On Friday afternoon, Evangelina Hernández Duarte, member of the Technical Evaluation Committee, confirmed that they received instructions from the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) of the Chamber of Deputies to form a quintet exclusively with women, so that whoever presides over the INE is a woman.

“Yesterday (Thursday, March 23) we received the instruction, there was already an agreement. Fortunately, both the Jucopo and the Court agreed on it,” he said.

“We are still waiting for an agreement to be made, and I am somewhat breaking with the committee’s agreement, because I should not be giving this conference,” he added.

He referred that As of this Saturday, the interviews conducted with the aspiring directors of the National Electoral Institute will be published on the microsite of the Technical Evaluation Committee, as well as the evaluations they obtained during the selection process.

“Everything is going to be transparent. The call also says that on Sunday everything will be uploaded after the quintets are delivered, on March 26. None of the information we obtained during this entire process can be left out because we would be failing to comply with all and each of the phases of the call. So, we are being very careful,” he said.
