Introducing the Blackmagic Videohub 120×120 12G: The Ultimate Solution for Video Routing

Blackmagic Design has released “Blackmagic Videohub 120×120 12G”. The suggested retail price is 2,108,000 yen including tax.

This product is the latest model in the Videohub 12G router series. The large Blackmagic Videohub 120×120 12G features front-panel shortcut buttons, an LCD display for viewing labels and live video, a metal knob for browsing video sources, zero latency, reference connectivity, and redundant power. It also supports full SDI reclocking and control over Ethernet.

Blackmagic Videohub 12G allows you to connect all your SDI devices to the router and connect them electronically, eliminating cable clutter. Connect any video input to any video output, and even a single video input to multiple video outputs, eliminating the need for complex studio diagrams. In other words, you can control any source on your studio monitor. This provides a high degree of flexibility to accommodate ongoing changes and emergencies. You can also use multiple HyperDeck recorders for mastering redundancy. You can also route your video to multiple distribution processors and broadcast it across all the platforms you use. Blackmagic Videohub 12G can also be used to add inputs to ATEM switchers.

The integrated front panel allows for video routing, making it ideal for racks of live production equipment that don’t have space for external hardware panels. The front panel is similar to the Videohub Master Control Pro, with a knob for navigation, direct input buttons for quick operation, and an LCD display with label display. Since the panel is integrated into the router, you can also check the live video on the LCD display. The LCD display also supports menus for changing router settings.

The Blackmagic Videohub 12G features a built-in LCD display that can display live video from all router inputs. This means you can see live video of all your router’s inputs before making any routing changes. Labels appear below the live video, so you can easily tell which video input you’re watching. Scroll through your router’s sources to see each input in alphabetical order as live video. It works even if the input video formats are different. You can scroll through connections while viewing live video on the LCD screen. It also supports visual routing, so you can control video input without adding an SDI monitor, making it ideal for mobile equipment racks where space is limited.

The advanced 12G-SDI connection on all Blackmagic Videohub 12G models is multi-rate and supports all SD, HD and Ultra HD video formats up to 2160p60. It can connect SDI, 3G-SDI, 6G-SDI and 12G-SDI devices. Blackmagic Videohub 12G can also route any video format simultaneously to the same router. This means that the 120×120 model can route up to 120 different video signals to 120 outputs simultaneously. 12G-SDI supports Ultra HD at high frame rate with a single BNC connection and can easily connect to general HD equipment. 12G-SDI is a future-oriented technology that can be used not only with existing equipment but also with the introduction of new equipment in the future.

Videohub features SDI reclocking capability on all 12G-SDI inputs. SDI reclocking regenerates video signals at maximum quality. This feature is important because long cables degrade the signal. Expensive premium “digital” cables can reduce this degradation to some extent, but the longer the cable becomes, the more this quality degradation cannot be completely eliminated. With SDI reclocking, all SDI equipment in the studio receives a regenerated signal, improving jitter. Even with long cables, the video will not be interrupted.

All Blackmagic Videohub router models can be controlled remotely. This is an essential feature in large broadcast studios where equipment is connected to routers at different locations within the building. There are two types of hardware panels. Videohub Master Control Pro is similar to the front panel, with a knob, an LCD display and shortcut buttons. Videohub Smart Control Pro has all the buttons. It’s also customizable, so you can program each button as a router input and control a single router output. You can instantly change the router’s output by simply pressing a button on the panel. It works best when a smart panel is placed under each video monitor.

If you want to perform low-cost external router control, Videohub Software Control is ideal as it can be downloaded for free. Videohub Software Control is compatible with both Mac and Windows, so you can launch it on your existing creative computer. The software consists of large, easy-to-press buttons, each of which can be customized for the router’s input and output. Additionally, icons are assigned to make them easier to understand visually. The large buttons make it ideal for use with touchscreen PCs. The software can be used as a large-screen XY control panel. Apple iPad software is also available for download.

Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design, commented:

Our updated series of Ultra HD routers have been well received by our users. However, we are receiving requests for an even larger model, so we have been working on developing this new 120×120 model. The product can connect and route numerous video signals, up to 120 in any combination of SD, HD and Ultra HD. We are excited to see this product in action in sports, large-scale concerts, post-production facilities and broadcast stations!

The Blackmagic Videohub 120×120 12G will be on display at the Blackmagic Design booth (#SL5005) at NAB 2024.
