Invasion of Ukraine Early warning of German gas supply emergency

As Russia agreed to accept gas payment in ruble, the local currency, Germany issued an ‘early warning’ for a gas supply emergency, the Associated Press reported on the 30th (local time).

Germany’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Climate Robert Havek told reporters on the same day that Germany’s gas storage facilities had only 25% left, and issued an “early warning” for gas supply.

He said the move was the first of a three-level warning and would create a new emergency response team to strengthen gas supply inspections.

He explained that he took such precautionary measures by passing a bill requiring Russia to pay in rubles for gas sales despite the rejection of the G7.

Russia has warned that if Europe refuses to settle gas payments in rubles, it will lead to gas supply disruptions.
