Apple Plans Siri Revamp with iOS 19 amid AI feature Delays
Updated May 28, 2025
Apple’s rollout of its AI-integrated Siri has faced notable setbacks. Features slated for iOS 18 have been delayed, a fact the company has acknowledged, stating they will arrive “in the coming year.” Though, reports suggest Apple is planning a comeback with iOS 19.
The core issue stems from a rushed growth timeline for iOS 18. Apple ideally wanted to rewrite Siri’s architecture entirely before the release. however, time constraints prevented this.
The current iOS 18 version of siri operates with two separate systems: one for legacy commands and another for advanced queries. This approach, while allowing for the initial release of Apple Intelligence, has resulted in a less-than-smooth user experience. Engineers encountered numerous bugs, and the features did not perform as expected.

With iOS 19, Apple intends to rebuild Siri’s architecture. This overhaul aims to enable the three previously promised Siri features for iOS 18.4. Furthermore, Apple has implemented leadership changes within its AI division, with the goal of improved execution and performance of its Apple Intelligence initiatives.
The new system will phase out the legacy Siri architecture, which has been in place for over a decade. Mike Rockwell, the Vision Pro chief, has taken charge of Siri and is restructuring leadership, replacing key personnel with members from his Vision Pro software group. These changes address employee concerns regarding siri’s leadership.
For iOS 19, Apple’s plan is to merge both systems together and roll out a new Siri architecture.I expect this to be introduced as early as Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June of this year — with a launch by spring 2026 as part of iOS 19.4.
The hope is that Apple’s AI strategy will be more refined this year compared to WWDC24.
What’s next
The success of iOS 19 hinges on Apple’s ability to deliver a stable and efficient Siri experience. The revamped architecture and leadership changes signal a renewed focus on AI and user satisfaction.
