Baghdad: Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Qadimi has miraculously escaped an assassination attempt. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of the Prime Minister’s Office in Baghdad. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Six members of the PM’s body were injured in the blast. Some media outlets reported that Prime Minister Mustafa al-Qadimi was injured, but an official spokesman denied the allegations. Mustafa al-Qadimi tweeted that he was safe and that people should exercise restraint.

The Iraqi military says this is an assassination attempt. The assassination comes at a time of heightened tensions in Iraq over the outcome of the October elections. Pro-Iranian parties suffered heavy electoral setbacks.

More than 100 people were injured in the riots, which were sparked by protesters claiming they would not accept the result.

Those who oppose al-Qadimi have the support of Iran. It is an open secret that they are also receiving arms from Iran. Khadimi’s residence is located in the Green Zone, a high security zone in Baghdad. It is home to many important government buildings and foreign embassies.

A large protest took place outside Baghdad’s Green Zone on Friday, claiming that the election results would not be accepted. The protesters hurled stones at the police. Some officers were injured.

Fearly the struggle was first with tier gas and then the gun. One person was killed in a police shooting. Several people were injured.
