According to Compass and others on the 25th, investigators from the Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) found a private prison at the home of Terbit, the governor of Langkat County, near Medan, Sumatra the day before, and cooperated with the police to rescue 27 people.

Terbit was arrested on the 19th on charges of bribery and is currently under investigation.

The community was taken by surprise when the poor appearance of the people imprisoned in the two iron bars was revealed.

The mayor of Terbit confessed that he had built a private prison in 2012 to house 40 people in the name of rehabilitating drug addicts.

The police moved the rescued people to a welfare facility and launched a joint investigation, including a drug team.

Those who were imprisoned said, “From 8 am to 6 pm, they were mobilized for forced labor on a farm farm owned by the military without wages for 10 hours without wages. .

They added that at the end of each day’s farm work, they were trapped inside locked iron bars, unable to go anywhere and contact anyone.

The police regard this case as a ‘modern slavery case’ and focus on the application of charges such as human trafficking and confinement, human rights violations, and torture.

Human rights groups denounced, “We are astonished that the governor, who should be at the forefront of protecting citizens, has committed such a thing.”

According to the Anti-Corruption Commission, Governor Terbit owns a large amount of land in Langkat County and property worth 85.15 billion rupiah (7.1 billion won), including buildings, eight vehicles, and cash in Medan City.
