Famous singer and actress IU has bravely taken on the Ice Bucket Challenge, demonstrating her unwavering support for ALS patients.

On the 11th, IU released a video on her Instagram account alongside a caption that read, “I am proud to participate in the 2023 Ice Bucket Challenge, following Sean’s invitation.”

During the video, IU proclaimed, “In addition to the ice bucket challenge, I will also participate in the donation challenge on behalf of my beloved fandom, IUANA. The individuals I have chosen to nominate are esteemed figures such as senior Heo Jun-seok, Lee Joo-young, and Lee Do-hyun.”

Expressing her gratitude, IU added, “I am immensely thankful to my fellow colleagues who have willingly pledged their participation amidst their busy schedules. Within the next 24 hours, I challenge the Ice Bucket Challenge to these three incredible individuals. Your interest and support towards establishing Korea’s first-ever Lou Gehrig convalescent hospital would be greatly appreciated.”

This marks IU’s third time engaging in the ice bucket challenge. In 2014, she participated for the first time alongside her manager, following the nominations of singer Kim Bum-soo and the group Sunny Hill’s Jubi. The nominated individuals were the group Akdong Musician, singer Luna, and her own manager. Even back then, IU had pledged her contribution with IUANA.

In 2018, Apink’s Jung Eun-ji joined the challenge, subsequently nominating lyricist Kim Ea-na, singer Seonwoo Jung-ah, and actress Kang Han-na as the next participants.

The Ice Bucket Challenge, in which IU played a significant role, forms part of a continuous fundraising campaign led by the American ALS Association. Its primary objective is to aid in the development of potential treatments for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Those nominated through the challenge can comply by either posting an accredited photo or video within 24 hours or by making a $100 donation to ALS.

Earlier, Sean initiated the Ice Bucket Challenge and implored, “Let’s come together to establish Korea’s inaugural Lou Gehrig convalescent hospital.” As the next participants, he nominated Park Bo-gum, IU, and Jo Won-hee.
