West Jakarta Police Uncover Major Methamphetamine Lab in Residential Area

West Jakarta, Indonesia – In a significant bust, the West Java Regional police have dismantled a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory operating within a rented house in Meruya Selatan, West Jakarta. The operation, which began with intelligence gathering on a foreign national involved in drug distribution, culminated in the discovery of the lab and the arrest of two individuals.
The Raid and Discovery
The investigation was initiated following a tip-off concerning a foreign national suspected of being a key player in a drug distribution network. This led proved fruitful, directing police to a residential property on Jalan Swakarya. On July 5, 2025, authorities raided the location, uncovering the refined operation.Three days later,a full-scale raid was conducted,leading to the apprehension of two suspects.
Grand Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, Head of Public Relations for the West Java Regional Police, confirmed the details of the operation. “Our investigation into a foreign national believed to be involved in a drug distribution network led us directly to this laboratory,” Rochmawan stated.”The facility was actively producing methamphetamine, locally known as ‘sabu’.”
Suspects Apprehended
The two individuals arrested at the scene have been identified by their initials MT and RA. Rochmawan elaborated, “MT is an Iranian national, while RA is an Indonesian citizen.” Both are now facing serious charges related to the production and distribution of illegal narcotics.
Evidence Seized
During the raid,police meticulously collected a range of evidence crucial to the ongoing investigation. The seized items included various chemical liquids essential for drug synthesis, digital scales for precise measurement, numerous plastic clips, and a extensive set of laboratory tools. Legal Ramifications
The suspects, MT and RA, have been charged under Indonesia’s stringent narcotics laws. Specifically, they face charges stemming from Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1), subsidiary Article 113 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1), and further subsidiary Article 112 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics.
These charges carry severe penalties. If convicted,the suspects could face the death penalty,life imprisonment,or a ample fine of up to Rp10 billion. The severity of the potential punishment reflects the Indonesian government’s commitment to combating the drug trade.
