Japan to Provide 732 Billion Yen to Taiwanese Companies for Chip Manufacturing Expansion

Japan will provide 732 billion yen ($4.86 billion) to Taiwanese companies. Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world’s largest contract chip maker, to help TSMC build a second chip manufacturing facility in Japan.

TSMC’s decision to manufacture chips in Japan has become a key component of Japan’s effort to revive advanced semiconductor manufacturing. and strengthening industrial supply chains to cope with disruptions caused by rising tensions with China.

“The chip will be more advanced than the first factory. And it can be used for artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous driving. and we will ensure that we have a stable supply of semiconductors in Japan,” Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Ken Saito told reporters after attending the opening ceremony of TSMC’s first factory in Kumamoto on the island of Kyushu, Japan today (24 February)
