(Tokyo = Yonhap News) Sang-hyun Park Reporter = Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa, who is attending the Munich Security Conference (MSC), has conveyed to China his position of concern over the invasion of airspace by reconnaissance balloons.

Kyodo News reported on the 18th that Foreign Minister Hayashi met with a member of the Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee in Munich and told Wang Yi that “any country’s balloon entering its airspace without permission is an attack .”

Japan previously revealed that an aircraft believed to be a Chinese unmanned reconnaissance balloon was confirmed over Japan between 2019 and 2021.

Foreign Minister Hayashi expressed concern about China’s active military activities in the East China Sea and other areas during the meeting with Wang Yuan, and reaffirmed the current policy of working together to build constructive and stable relations between Japan and China.

He also announced that he would consider easing quarantine policies for travelers coming in from China while monitoring the COVID-19 infection situation in China.

The Japanese Foreign Ministry said, “Foreign Minister Hayashi strongly criticized North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch, and decided to cooperate with China to resolve the issue of Japanese abductees.”

In addition, the two countries agreed to hold a “security dialogue” in Tokyo next week attended by high-ranking foreign and defense officials.

Security talks between the two countries have not been held in four years since the last one in February 2019 in Beijing, China.
