The K-League 2 Jeonnam Dragons, which are trying to change due to poor performance, have appointed Minister Lee Yong-in University coach as their new manager.

On the 9th, Jeonnam announced the reason for the appointment, saying, “The new manager Lee Minister is a novel and research leader who can draw out the strengths and potentials of the players, and is evaluated as the best leader in the college football world who has produced many professional players.”

Jeonnam, who became the first K League 2 team to win the FA Cup last year, has secured a place in the 2022 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League. However, they did not cross the threshold of the group stage.

The recent league performance has also been poor. Last year, they finished 4th in the season, but this year they are in 8th place with only 4 wins, 5 draws and 8 losses. Jeonnam broke up with former coach Jeon Jeon-jun on the 5th due to poor performance.

New coach Lee took over as the head coach of Yongin University, which was evaluated as a weak team in 2011, and put the team in the ranks of the strongest in college football. From 2015 to 2021, he swept the university stage by winning regional championships for seven consecutive years. In 2021, he was selected as the best manager of the Korea University Football Federation by achieving three crowns.

“I am deeply grateful to Jeonnam for trusting in my football and entrusting me with my first professional battalion,” said Lee through the club. Then, he said, “I will go with a certain style with strong and earnest fighting spirit that is unique to Jeonnam.”

He emphasized, “I will make everyone think that Jeonnam is playing soccer different from other teams,” he said.

After meeting with the team on the 9th, Lee will make his home debut against Gyeongnam FC at 8 pm on the 12th at the Gwangyang Soccer Stadium in Jeollanam-do.
