“We did have security. We had Michael Clarke Duncan at the door,” Alexander shared with her podcast co-hosts Kim Coles (Sinclair James Jones) and John Henton. Duncan, who tragically passed away in 2012, would go on to achieve meaningful Hollywood success, starring in blockbuster films like The Green Mile, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, and Kung Fu panda. His presence as a bodyguard underscored the increasing attention the Living Single cast was receiving.

Carson and Henton also spoke about their own roles in ensuring their female co-stars felt safe. Henton emphasized that it was a natural extension of their camaraderie.
“as we out with our ladies, with our sisters, you have to be security,” Henton stated. “We didn’t really think about [it].” This sentiment reflects the strong bond and familial atmosphere that frequently enough characterized the Living Single set.

“he’s like, I don’t have a pen, but I’ll give you a hug. And I’m like, no, you don’t do that,” Henton recounted, referring to a fan asking Kim Coles for an autograph. This anecdote highlights the need for clear boundaries, even in the face of adoration.
Another fan encounter described by Henton involved a man who seemed overly interested in where one of the cast members was headed. “He’s a fan.I see him looking at her,” Henton recalled. “She’s going to punch the button on her floor, and I was like, ‘Back up. Go pick your floor, fella.’ It was obvious this person was trying to see which floor Fields was going to.” This subtle but clear intervention by Henton demonstrated the cast’s commitment to each other’s privacy and safety.
