Joint CCR-UEMOA AG, A turning point in regional integration

The Regional Consular Chamber of UEMOA (CCR-UEMOA) successfully closed its 25th session of the Joint General Assembly in Cotonou, Benin, from May 6 to 8, 2024. The event, which marked the end of a mandate and the beginning of a new era, brought together eminent personalities from the world of business, the diplomatic sector and high levels of government.

Under the chairmanship of Mr. Eric Kader TABE GBIAN, representing Mrs. Alimatou Shadiya ASSOUMAN, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Benin, the assembly was honored by the presence of leading figures such as Mr. Daouda COULIBALY, President of the CCR-UEMOA, Mr. Paul Koffi KOFFI, Commissioner in charge of the Department of Business Development, Mines, Energy and the Digital Economy (DEMEN) and Mr. Arnauld AKAKPO, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Benin (CCI-Benin).

Among the subjects discussed during this session, the renewal of the institution’s governing bodies for the 2024-2027 term was at the heart of the debates. Mrs. Héléna Maria José NOSOLINI EMBALO, from Guinea-Bissau, was elected President of the CCR-UEMOA for a three-year, non-renewable mandate. This experienced administrator, also associated with major entities such as ECOBANK Bissau and Bureau d’Etudes 3-E Consulting SARL, brings valuable expertise to guide the institution in the years to come.

The Assembly was also an opportunity for members of the CCR-UEMOA to examine ongoing developments in the UEMOA area with regard to the integration process and their impact on the activities of the community private sector.

On the sidelines of the deliberations, B2B meetings were organized between members of the CCR-UEMOA and their Beninese counterparts, thus providing a platform conducive to the development of commercial partnerships and fruitful exchanges. Additionally, a visit to the Glo-Djigbé Special Economic Zone allowed participants to discover first-hand the investment opportunities in the region.

The new Office of the CCR-UEMOA was received in audience by high-level Beninese dignitaries, including Mr. Olushegun ADJADI BAKARI, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Abdoulaye BIO TCHANE, Minister of State in charge of Planning and Development, reinforcing thus the links between the institution and the national authorities.
