Ryangha, one half of the twin duo Ryanghyun Ryangha, has shared details regarding the disappearance of the substantial earnings they made as JYP Entertainment’s first unofficial artists. During an interview on the YouTube channel Geunhwang Olympic, Ryangha revealed that the money earned during their peak popularity vanished following the death of their father.

The twins were discovered by Park Jin Young in 2000 after he saw their dance team, Little Boys, performing on television. Debuting as 12-year-old artists, the duo became a national sensation in South Korea, helping to establish the foundation of what would become the JYP Entertainment empire.

Groundbreaking Contract and Financial Success

At the start of their careers, Park Jin Young offered the twins a contract that was considered revolutionary for the time. Because the agency was new and the twins were rookies, the agreement featured a 50-50 split of all earnings.

This favorable arrangement allowed the twins to accumulate significant wealth. At the height of their fame, they earned advertising fees reaching hundreds of millions of won. Some reports indicate their total earnings reached as high as 2 billion won.

The Loss of Earnings

Despite the high earnings, Ryangha noted that he eventually had to work part-time jobs to maintain his livelihood after his popularity declined. When questioned by others about why he did not use the money from his idol days, he explained that the funds belonged to his father.

The Loss of Earnings

Ryangha explained that whenever the twins earned money, their father would immediately withdraw the funds in cash. While he stated that his father did not squander the money recklessly, the funds remained under his father’s control.

The situation reached a critical point in 2015 when their father passed away suddenly in his sleep. Because the money had been withdrawn in cash and stored in an unknown location, the twins had no way of retrieving the funds after his death.

He must have kept it somewhere, but since he suddenly passed away in his sleep, I have no way of finding out….

Industry Context and Legacy

Ryanghyun Ryangha are often cited as the OG boy group of the K-Pop powerhouse JYP Entertainment. Their success as child stars and b-boys paved the way for the agency’s future growth and the development of subsequent idol groups.

Beyond their financial struggles, Ryangha also addressed rumors regarding their relationship with their former agency, mentioning that rumors had circulated suggesting Park Jin Young had abandoned them.

The twins’ journey reflects the complexities of child stardom in the early 2000s K-Pop industry, highlighting the intersection of rapid fame, groundbreaking industry contracts, and the personal challenges of transitioning into adulthood.
