Karuvannur Bank Fraud: Directors Accuse CPM of Betrayal and Manipulation

Karuvannur Bank Directors Allege Corruption Within CPM Party

Former Governing Body Members Speak Out

Thrissur ∙ Sunil Kumar, the secretary of Karuvannur Bank, has been accused of holding a powerful position as the CPM local secretary. These allegations have raised concerns about corruption within the party. “We all believed it…” said VK Lalithan, a former member of the governing body, who is currently facing a forfeiture liability of Rs 10 crore after being implicated in the Karuvannur Co-operative Bank fraud case.

The controversy surrounding the appointment of governing body members has further deepened. CPM member, Ambili Mahesh, has publicly stated that the party deceived them by appointing individuals with ulterior motives to the governing body. Various former board members have come forward to shed light on the alleged deceitful practices:

  • VK Lalithan and KV Sugathan (both CPI): “Only applications for small loans were presented for approval at the Governing Body meetings. Requests for larger amounts, such as 50 lakhs, were never brought to our attention.”
  • After adjourning the meeting, the secretary would draft the minutes, which would falsely claim the approval of larger loan requests. These discrepancies were not addressed during the closing of the meeting. Innocent members were sacrificed to protect the leaders.
  • Ambili Mahesh (CPM) and Mini Nandanan (CPI): “Our lives have been ruined due to the deceitful actions of party members. We are being punished for crimes we did not commit. In 2019, party leaders were made aware of the ongoing fraud in the bank. CK Chandran, a member of the party’s district secretariat, reassured us that it was not a serious issue and that everything could be resolved without consequences.”

These allegations have raised serious concerns about corruption within the CPM party and its impact on the functioning of Karuvannur Bank. The former governing body members firmly believe that they have been wronged and are seeking justice for the fraudulent practices they were unknowingly involved in. As the investigations into the Karuvannur Co-operative Bank fraud case continue, the spotlight remains on the alleged misconduct within the party.

Thrissur ∙ Sunil Kumar, secretary of Karuvannur Bank, held the post of CPM local secretary. He is very influential in the party. We all believed it…’ said VKLalithan, a former member of the governing body, who was added to the crime branch in the Karuvannur Co-operative Bank fraud and faces a forfeiture liability of Rs 10 crore.

CPM member Ambili Mahesh is among those who openly say that the party cheated them by appointing members of the governing body including himself. Former board members reveal how they were duped:

VK Lalithan and KV Sugathan (both CPI): ‘Only applications for small loans were placed for approval at the Governing Body meeting. The governing body members have never seen requests for amounts as large as 50 lakhs.

After adjourning the meeting of the governing body, the secretary will write this in the minutes and record it as passed. The records did not follow any pattern of closure on that day. We are innocent. We were sacrificed to save the leaders.’

Ambili Mahesh (CPM), Mini Nandanan (CPI): ‘They have ruined our lives for party members. We are punished for doing nothing wrong. In 2019, the leaders of the parties were informed about the fraud that is happening in the bank. CK Chandran, a member of the party’s district secretariat, told us that it is not a trivial issue, that everything can be fixed, and that there is nothing to fear.’
