Kate Middleton’s Ascot Withdrawal Sparks Health Concerns
Updated June 19, 2025
Kensington Palace initially downplayed Catherine, the Princess of Wales’s, last-minute decision to miss the Royal Ascot. However, sources within the palace revealed a sense of alarm regarding her health after the sudden change of plans. The princess’s role in public life remains a balancing act.
Just six months ago, the future queen announced she was in remission from cancer. she had appeared well at Trooping the Color on June 14 and Garter Day on June 16. The Telegraph reported that as of Wednesday morning, Kate was expected to attend Ascot with Prince William, but she canceled shortly thereafter.
A former courtier described the atmosphere as chaotic. “One minute she was going, and the next she wasn’t,” the courtier said.”This is one of the biggest days of the year; you don’t just miss Ascot on a whim, so there was a real sense of panic.”
The courtier added that the announcement’s chaotic nature was reminiscent of the “dark days” of early 2024. During that period, news about Kate’s health was scarce following her abdominal surgery in January. The palace revealed little, leading to widespread speculation.
In March 2024, Kate announced she had cancer but did not specify the type. By September, she said she had completed preventative chemotherapy and, in January 2025, announced she was in remission. She cautioned that her public appearances would remain subject to change.
Palace sources said she was “disappointed” to miss Ascot but is focused on balancing royal duties with her recovery. Prince William attended, riding with King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and Prince Saud bin Khalid al-Saud.
A friend of the princess said Kate was “basically tired” after recent events. “There are good days and bad days, as she herself has very candidly said,” the friend noted.
Another friend echoed this sentiment, saying, “Catherine knows she should not overdo things. She is grateful that her recovery has gone well, but things have not been plain sailing.”
