KBO League, 2023-2025 salary cap ceiling of 11.426 billion won: Jeong Pil

On January 21, 2020, the KBO established a salary cap clause that will be applied from 2023 on January 21, 2020, for league power leveling and continued upward development.

In 2021 and 2022, an amount equal to 120% of the club’s annual average amount, which is the sum of the salaries of the top 40 players (including annual salary, the actual amount paid for options, and the FA’s average annual contract fee) among players belonging to each club, excluding foreign players and new players.

The salary cap is applied from 2023 to 2025, after which the upper limit can be adjusted to reflect the rate of inflation.

If the contract exceeds the salary cap, an amount equal to 50% of the excess must be paid as a penalty. In the event of more than two consecutive entries, 100% of the excess amount must be paid as a penalty, and the right to be nominated for the first round of the following year will be reduced by 9 steps.
